In March 1945 Eddie Scott was training in Bomber Command
when a plane struck and set fire to the building containing the trainees.
Badly burned he walked out of the building and was taken to Cosford
Hospital and then transferred to Queen Victoria Hospital at East Grinstead.
During the following 5 years at East Grinstead he underwent over 30
operations. On release he continued working and was with the Prudential
for 40 years. Having lived in North Wales for many years the family
finally settled in Chester where he had a long and happy retirement.
He enjoyed gardening, playing snooker and, despite his disabilities,
was always patient in repairing even the smallest items - nothing would
defeat him. He enjoyed driving for 70 years and finally gave up at 92
years of age as his license had expired.
After a short illness he died just before his 96th birthday leaving
£50,000 to the Blond McIndoe Research Foundation. |
